Local family business sets the bar with a Better Business Bureau award
By Chris Galford
Every year, the Better Business Bureau honors those businesses that have proven exemplary in their commitment to ethics, integrity and customer service through a prize known as the Torch Award. Chosen by a panel of volunteer community leaders, the winner of this year’s small business category for Northwest Ohio and the Southeastern Michigan area was Coyle Funeral and Cremation Services.
In operation since 1888, Coyle is today run by President Megan Coyle-Stamos, the fifth generation of her family to maintain it.
“Winning the Torch award is very meaningful to our family business. We work hard every day, operating under the principles that the award and the BBB stand for: integrity, ethics and ‘doing the right thing.’ We are humbled to be chosen as the winner among the 200-plus applicants. Our commitment to serving the community with the highest standards of business will continue on into our 126 year at Coyle Funeral and Cremation Services.”
Their business is dedicated to planning and personalizing the funerary process. That personalization extends well beyond the funerals themselves, however, through maintenance of a 24-hour online grief service and memorial candle lighting ceremonies on holidays. Their commitment to community service is also evident in their involvement with Cell Phones for Soldiers, collecting more than 2,500 phones.
