Now is the perfect time to treat spider and varicose veins

The end of the year when you’re wearing long pants and your insurance deductibles have been met is the perfect time to have varicose veins treated, said Dr. Wade Banker, owner of Luxe Laser Vein and Body Center in Maumee.

“We do a lot of work with varicose veins and spider veins, and this time of the year is an excellent time to be getting this done,” he said. “We have some of the highest technology in the entire area. We have the most up-to-date laser for taking off spider veins and the most up-to-date laser for varicose veins.”

Problems associated with varicose veins and what is known as venous insufficiency go beyond appearances. Varicose veins actually put people at risk of (possibly) fatal complications.

“There is a health risk, and you have to address that, and the earlier the better,” Dr. Banker emphasized.

Those with varicose veins are at a much higher risk of getting blood clots in their legs, Dr. Banker explained, which puts them at a higher risk of throwing pulmonary emboli (blood clots) to the lungs.

“That can be fatal,” he added. “So you want to get these treated.”
