Dr. Jabaly explains value of Vitamin D testing

Almost 90 percent of the people tested over the last three years by Dr. Georges Jabaly, founder of Dr. Jabaly Weight Loss, have had extremely low levels of vitamin D.

“Vitamin D is one of the most essential vitamins in the body,” Dr. Jabaly said. “Multiple body organs are required to make vitamin D, along with a fair amount of sun exposure. In Northwest Ohio – Southeast Michigan where we have less sun 6 months out of the year, the result is many people with low vitamin D levels.”

“Prolonged vitamin D deficiency can, in some cases, lead to osteoporosis.  In many cases of low vitamin D, the problem can be corrected with prescription-strength supplements. Patients who do test low should notice significant health improvements when their vitamin D levels are restored,” Dr. Jabaly said.

“Most people – when they correct their vitamin D – will have more energy in the daytime; they lose weight; they have better concentration; their overall health will become much better,” he said.

That doesn’t mean that everyone should take high levels of vitamin D, Dr. Jabaly cautioned.

“If you have a normal vitamin D level in your body, you don’t need it. A lot of people spend a lot of money on supplements,” he added. “My approach to this is, why not get the test done and be treated if necessary?”
