By Chris Galford- From their home base across the state line in Adrian, Mich., Morning Fresh Bakeries have been crafting the donuts that are their specialty for the better part of 50 years. While this journey in business has previously taken them into Ohio occasionally, a year ago marked their first foray into Perrysburg, with a new location on Louisiana Ave.

“We’ve been in business for 43 years,” said owner Jerry Gallatin. “And this store here we thought was a good choice, priced right, had good potential. Our home base is definitely Adrian, though we have all the equipment and do our own baking here. It’s (only) our donuts we make in Adrian and bring down.”

While the donuts are carted in, though, breakfast waits for no one. At the Morning Fresh Bakeries, breakfast is an all-day affair, with sandwiches, bagels, muffins, cookies and copious amounts of coffee served well into the afternoon, with store hours from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day. Those treats also come with a personalized flare—both the muffins and the cookies on sale therein are based on home recipes.

But that’s not all. As manager Jenny Kemnitz said, “The sprinkled donuts are crazy good here, but we also have a couple of different things that aren’t real usual: a donut cake that is an actual large donut, raised up like a cake, and something called a tailgate fritter, which is a very large apple fritter.”

As for the caffeine cravers (or simply the office-minded), bulk coffee is also offered. It’s a great pairing for one having the bakeries’ new fall cake donuts, or simply trying to stave off the autumn chill.

With their own unique treats and meaty sandwiches to boot, Morning Fresh Bakeries aren’t just bakeries; they come with the feeling of hometown cafes.
