Hoen’s Garden Center and Landscaping donates pumpkins for the first Pumpkins for Kids event held at the McDonald’s on Collingwood Blvd.

pumpkins for kids event 1 pic 1 By Chris Galford- This October, First Local Toledo kicked off the autumn season with an event catering to the city’s youth: “Pumpkins for Kids.” Thanks to donations of pumpkins from Hoen’s Garden Center and Landscaping and a generous host in the form of the Collingwood Blvd. McDonald’s, the event was a huge success, with more than 250 pumpkins given out to area kids.

“The reaction was really good. Most kids, they see pumpkins, they automatically think Halloween. Once they came in, and we told them they were free, they were really excited,” said Todd Witcher, general manager for the McDonald’s.

A piece of a nine store Toledo franchise owned by Jon Harris, the McDonald’s at 1225 Collingwood Blvd. gave to the community all weekend long, from Oct. 4 through 5. On Thanksgiving, though, they’ll be giving away something else: free breakfasts, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
