Dr. Z’s Acupuncture Clinic treats the whole person for optimal health

Dr. Z’s Acupuncture Clinic in Perrysburg offers treatment for a variety of both acute and chronic conditions, including sinusitis, allergies, smoking cessation, headaches, migraines, sports injuries, infertility and diabetic neuropathy.

“People who have diabetes for a long time can start to get numbness and tingling in their feet and can find it difficult to walk because they don’t have the normal sensations,” explained Dr. Zavela, founder of the clinic. “The acupuncture treatments can help the body’s energy return to their feet and decrease the numbness and tingling that they have.”

The clinic’s regimen for smoking cessation – typically three treatments spaced one or two weeks apart – can help people get past the initial withdrawal from nicotine. Acupuncture aids smoking cessation by stopping the jitters, curbing cravings, and lessening the irritability and restlessness that accompany nicotine withdrawal, while also increasing relaxation and detoxifying the body.

“People find that it’s a lot easier to quit (smoking) with a couple of acupuncture treatments than just trying it on their own,” Dr. Zavela added.

The clinic has also helped women undergoing in vitro fertilization.

“We’ve had a number of women referred to us for fertilization treatment,” he said. “And we’ve had a few success stories there, partnering with their in vitro fertilization doctors to help their treatments.”

The needles used by Dr. Z’s Acupuncture Clinic are about the size of a human hair and cause very little, if any, discomfort.

“After the initial little pinch of going through the skin, people don’t even notice that the needles are in there,” he said.

During the initial consultation, patients can expect to discuss their primary condition as well as review their medical history.

“Prior to any treatments, we want to discover what’s going on with the patient, see what their primary condition is and also review their medical history to see what other conditions they have going on, which might be related to their primary condition,” Dr. Zavela said. “We try to group those together as much as we can so we’re not just treating one small condition; we try to treat the whole person.”
