Whoever said food is just food never had themselves a Bowman Landes Turkey. On advance sale now at Lievens Market and Outdoor Living, these turkeys are a breed apart, according to Chad Lievens, a partner in the market.

“They (the turkeys) have been around since 1948. There’s no antibiotics ever administered and it’s a premium turkey, vegetarian fed, all free range, open air and sunshine — they’re also grown right here on the ground in Ohio,” Chad said.

It’s a stark contrast to many other livestock farmers, as the goal with turkeys is often to simply fatten them up for the holiday season. That can mean antibiotics and fillers in the feed — which all comes back to the person dining on them.

Going au naturel doesn’t lose Bowman Landes anything in terms of size, though.

“These come anywhere from 10 to 12 pounds is the smallest turkey to 28 to 30 pounds. A lot of people will go for the smaller size for the deep fry,” said Chad.
