Fall Family Fun: Hoen’s Garden Center & Landscaping

Wendy Cornett

Hoen’s Garden Center & Landscaping in Holland will host its 13th annual Autumn Harvest Festival October 10 and 11 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., with food, fun and, of course, plenty of pumpkin picking for the whole family to enjoy.

“It’s a great family weekend, with hayrides, pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatables, crafts for kids, donuts, cider, and the list goes on,” explained owner Theresa Hoen. “And we’ll have a local vendor here called The Trolley. They make comfort food. It will be a really great, exciting time.”

Fall is a fun season to visit Hoen’s, which offers a wide variety of traditional and specialty pumpkins, pick-your-own pumpkins, mums, gourds, fall décor and weekend hayrides.

“What’s so special about our pumpkins is that they are home grown, there’s a diverse variety from white to Blue Hubbard, to Cinderella, to all the favorite old-fashioned pumpkins and newer varieties offered today,” Theresa added.

Upcoming fall workshops include a succulent pumpkin workshop and a seasonal miniature terrarium workshop to encourage the joy of gardening year-round.

And if your porch pots and patio containers look a little worse for the wear, Hoen’s can help.

“Another great offering we have at Hoen’s are fall container gardens,” Theresa said. “You can come in and get one already made or be inspired to spruce up your existing containers that are weather-worn by the end of the summer. It’s a great opportunity to do a seasonal transition for your containers.”

Hoen’s is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pick-your-own pumpkin hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday.
