Fall Family Fun: Gust Brothers Pumpkin Farm

Wendy Cornett

Gust Brothers Pumpkin Farm, just north of Sylvania in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, features 30 varieties of pumpkins as well as snacks and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

“On weekends we have hayrides; we have cider and donuts; we have a picnic area; and we have cows, pigs, chickens, sheep and goats, and you’re welcome to walk through our barns and look at all of our animals,” said owner Dan Gust.

The farm itself has been in the family for 100 years, Dan explained. His four sons – the “Gust Brothers” – started raising pumpkins 25 years ago as a hobby, and the venture quickly grew into a much bigger business for the family.

“We have a U-pick patch, so if you like to go out and pick your own pumpkin, you can. If not, we have some picked in the yard,” Dan added. “We have a U-pick vegetable patch that people really enjoy – all different kinds of late-summer vegetables – and it’s really a nice family adventure to go out and pick your own food and take it home and cook it.”

Gust Brothers Pumpkin Farm is open every day now through October 31, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
