This year, Taiwan Cuisine celebrates a one year anniversary of bringing their country’s native diet to the streets of Toledo. A place its owner, Chen, describes as a restaurant of all day specials, an experience both in take out and dining in, Taiwan Cuisine began opened doors in July 2013.

“I just wanted to do something, to try to bring Taiwanese special in … let the people know

Chinese food is not just like that. Show them something different. Taiwanese food is quite like Japanese. It’s not very salty, it’s very smooth, soft—it’s not very strong,” Chen said.

The restaurant serves a variety of dishes, from hearty soups to on-the-go chicken. Their recipes include everything from Taiwanese beef noodle soup or rice noodles to minced pork, traditional rice and popcorn chicken.

Their drinks, meanwhile, include the chewy but flavorful Bubble Tea, a tea-based drink also popularly known as pearl milk tea. Originally crafted in Taiwan, Bubble Tea consists of chewy tapioca balls added to the drink, which are then mixed with fruit, milk or syrup for slushy and flavorful concoctions.

This said, while Taiwan Cuisine’s specialty is in its name, their food selections also include diets from Singapore, Japan and even Mongolia.
