Barron’s Lawn Service dedicated to helping customers with lawn care needs
Barron’s Lawn Service has a long history that dates back to 1977, but the business has continued to flourish over the years in helping customers with their lawn care needs.
The family-owned operation got its start after owner Tom Curdes began plowing snow before deciding to turn it over to his brother-in-law and sister. As a result, Barron’s Lawn Service was formed and became a lawn and snow removal business.
Tom’s brother-in-law took a full-time position with the Ohio National Guard in 1983 that allowed Tom and his wife, Rose, to purchase the lawn service part of the operation in December of that year.
“We ran Barron’s Lawn Service up until 2002 at which point of time we added the Weed Man Toledo franchise to our mix,” Tom said. “We grew that business and then in 2009, we acquired the Adrian Weed Man franchise, which was a highly functioning franchise and we added that to our repertoire … and then in December of 2011, we were approached to buy the functioning Weed Man Defiance franchise, which was a 900-customer franchise.”
As a result of the acquisitions, lawn fertilization, weed and insect control, aeration and seeding services are provided to residential and commercial customers in Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Fulton, Williams, Henry, Paulding and Defiance counties in Ohio, and Lenawee, Washtenaw and Southern Monroe counties in Michigan, according to the Barron’s Lawn Service website. Weed Man is now the largest franchise lawn care company in the United States.
Barron’s Lawn Service works with residential and commercial clients in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan in providing a number of services, including lawn maintenance, renovations, mowing, mulching and weeding. Tom offered some advice and said people should make sure they water as much as possible this time of year, in addition to sharpening their mower blades three times a season.
“You want to make sure your lawn gets an inch of water a week,” he said. “You want to make sure you water in the morning. You don’t want to water at night because if you put your lawn to bed wet, that’s when you’re going to have disease issues.”
