Dentists and volunteers joined the Toledo Dental Center of Northwest Ohio and the Toledo Dental Society on Friday, Feb. 5 for a charity event aimed at bolstering the smiles of Toledo’s underserved children.
Give Kids A Smile! is a one-day program each year where dentists and hygienists offer their time to treat those who normally couldn’t afford such operations.
“It’s free dental work for all kids,” said Dr. Jacqueline Kozy Bathir, of Kozy Dental care. “It’s an honor to give kids what they need.”
She was joined by doctors Shabbir Hashim and Bridget Kozy Snyder, of the Toledo Dental Arts and Kozy Dental Care respectively. They worked in a fitting environment, as the Dental Center holds the title of Northwest Ohio’s only independent non-profit dental office.
“A lot of us dentists who are in our own private practices come here to volunteer our time,” said Dr. Hashim.
If there was any doubt about what the day was about, however, Dr. Kozy Snyder’s first patient summed it up.
“My first patient was a nine year old boy who was having pain every time he ate. We were able to give him a shiny silver crown which he was excited about, and we should be able to get him out of pain, so I think that everybody’s going to be happy with that,” Dr. Kozy Snyder said.
