Every business has its milestones, and for the dry cleaners known as Arrowhead Cleaners in Maumee, this year is shaping up to be a big one. For three years, Dorothy “Dotti” and Stephen McCreary have led a business dedicated to their customers and their community, and come March they will be celebrating that fact to its fullest.

For the whole of March, Arrowhead will be offering specials for cleaning household items — reaching out to the spring cleaning crowd. Drapes, comforters, pillows or what have you, will all be met with a firm 20 percent discount for the month. This is in addition to their existing Wednesday and Friday deals, whereby any items brought in for pressing or dry cleaning before 10 a.m. are guaranteed to be done on the same day.

Of course, Dotti was not always the owner of her current space.

“The history of my business is: My boss hired me one day, and then the second day I walked in, asked, does she want to sell it? She said yes. I was so excited, and I bought it. I just wanted to make a difference in the community and give cheap prices and old fashioned customer service,” Dotti said.

Make a difference they have, but not just in terms of pricing.

“We take donations from customers who come in and drop off things in the red boxes we have here,” said Dotti. Those donations are, in turn, picked up by local churches. “We really want to make a difference in the community by giving back. It’s all about giving back. You can’t take, take, take — it blocks your blessings.”

Additionally, Arrowhead’s services cater to those members of the community who actively keep others safe —military, police officers and firemen — through discounts of their own. For Dotti and her husband, it’s all about the community, but also a labor of love.

“I enjoy being a business owner for a dry cleaners because I do not like dry cleaning — I LOVE dry cleaning, just love, love, love it,” Dotti said.
